Seeing God
The Purpose of Life: To See God
The purpose of Life is to know, love and walk with God, through Jesus. In other words, it is to SEE GOD.
Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven in about to break upon us, to give LIGHT to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the PATH of PEACE.
—Luke 1:79
Jesus told him: “I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen Him!”
—John 14:6-7
In order to understand the reason why the purpose of life is to see God, we need to go back in history, to the moment God created all things, including us, human beings.
So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (…) Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! (…)
—Genesis 1:27,31a
…For you created all things, and they exist because of you created what you pleased
—Revelation 4:11b
God created us to be His delight and the object of all His affections. Man’s only concern would be freely respond to God’s love for him, by embracing and receiving His love, to love God back, to love his neighbor as himself, to live from Him to live and do God’s will.
So our role in God’s plan and purpose is simply let Him to bring us back to the love Jesus-center relationship we were created to. In other words, God’s plan and purpose becomes our calling: to live of the same likeness of Jesus Christ; to receive and embrace His love for us, and to be that same Love for others and ourselves.
I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.
—Ephesians 1:18
Now we are able to life in that way, not because of our own strength or even from our own effort, but because God gave us all things so we could be and live like Jesus.
By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
—2 Peter 1:-4
Is has been said that there is a God-shaped blank in every man’s heart. It is also true that there is a man-shaped blank in God’s heart. It is because of the latter that God yearns so much for us and pursues us so relentlessly, and it is because of the former that mere earthly things, even service, will never satisfy our hearts. Only God Himself can fill that blank which is made in His shape.
